Toronto, Canada, July 7, 2003 -

Bayer has selected Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc.'s, (ACD/Labs') IUPAC naming software, ACD/Name, to obtain systematic nomenclature capabilities on a global scale. ACD/Name reliably and consistently derives accurate chemical names for almost any organic, biochemical, organometallic, or inorganic structure based on International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) recommendations.

Bayer will gain access to the powerful IUPAC Name Engine through the ACD/I-Lab interface integrated on the Bayer Intranet. The IUPAC Name Engine has been installed on Bayer's corporate server, giving users direct access to the naming tools in order to speed up and simplify name generation and ensure consistent naming throughout the organization.

In addition, the ACD/Labs Name algorithm has been provided to Bayer in the form of ACD/IUPAC Name Batch to enable high-throughput name generation for large volumes of structures with minimal supervision.

"We are delighted that ACD/Labs' rigorous implementation of systematic nomenclature rules to provide accurate IUPAC names has convinced Bayer to choose ACD/Name as the global corporate naming platform," comments Guy Desmarquets, Ph.D., Director of European Operations at ACD/Labs.

"We have integrated ACD/IUPAC Name Batch into a web application in the Bayer Intranet, so users from everywhere in the company are able to generate high quality IUPAC names not only for single compounds using ACD/I-Lab, but also for lists of compounds via SD files. We are very happy to continue our cooperation with ACD/Labs," comments Holger Schimanski, Ph.D., Bayer Business Services, Bayer AG.
