Millennium/Empower FAQ Page

Q. To connect to Millennium/Empower™ from ACD/ChromManager (ChromProcessor module), how does the software need to be installed?
A. There are two different ways, depending on the version of software you have acquired.

Network version of ACD/Labs software:

  • The server portion of Millennium/Empower and ACD/ChromManager can be installed to the same server machine. The User needs both of the Client portions of ACD/ChromManager and Millennium/Empower installed on his/her computer.

Standalone version of ACD/Labs software:

  • The User needs both of the Client portions of ACD/ChromManager and Millennium/Empower installed on the same computer.

Note: There is no need for any additional integration procedures.

Q. A company has a Millennium client/server installation, and they would like to know if they need to have Millennium installed on every PC, or only access to the Millennium server?
A. They need to have the Client portion of Millennium installed on every PC.

Q. ACD/ChromManager reads files from the Millennium Results tab; can it also read Channels?
A. No, ACD/ChromManager can import data ONLY from the Results tab.

Q. What are the step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Millennium/Empower and import data into ACD/ChromManager?
A. Here are the simple steps to follow:

  1. Open ChromManager, and from the File menu select Connect To.
  2. In the Connect to External Application Dialog box, select Waters Empower (Millennium) and provide the login information as required.
  3. When the Project dataset has been loaded, you will get a number of data columns.
  4. Select the Results tab. You can go straight to the results or you may want to filter the results list. From the Sample Sets tab highlight the desired sample set. Right-click and choose the View as/Results commands. The list will now be filtered by the results associated with this specific sample set.
  5. Highlight the desired result line and switch back to the ChromManager window.
  6. In the Import from Millennium Database window that appears, select the ChromProcessor (or UV-IR Processor) radio button and click the Import button.
  7. In the Multiple Result Import window you can specify Single Chromatogram or Chromatograms in Range. Chromatograms in Range will show your results in a series.

Q. Which version of Millennium32 (Waters) is compatible with the current ACD/Labs version?
A. We support version 3.05 or greater of Millennium32, and Empower. Chemical structures are supported beginning from Millennium32 version 4.0.

Q. My Millennium/Empower is installed via Citrix®. How can I get my data from Empower to ACD/ChromManager?
A. Due to the nature of a Citrix installation, the Connect To feature will not work with Citrix. There are, however, a few workarounds:
        - Export your Millennium/Empower data via netCDF (AIA format) or ASCII text. This file format will allow you to import the chromatogram, but not the user parameters. Parameters can be added later. Please see the technical note entitled Automated Attachment of Chromatographic Parameters to NetCDF Files
        - A batch-wise export solution is available via a ChemBasic utility. Please contact Support for details.

Citrix installations of ACD/Labs Software are currently unsupported.

Q. I have processed my data in Millennium/Empower, but the data sent to the ChromManager processor was not processed. Why is that?
A. Due to the limitations of the Empoer/Millennium32 Toolkit (the engine of the Connect To feature), not all of the sample processing is available for export. However, processing can be duplicated in the ChromManager processor, and executed automatically via macros in most cases.
