Windows 2000 and ACD/Labs software v.4.5 and earlier |
Note: All problems described below are for ACD/Labs software v. 4.5 and earlier. Version 5.0 is completely compatible with Windows 2000.
The Windows 2000 represents the latest incarnation of Windows to be released by Microsoft. Current releases include:
Windows 2000 Professional;
Windows 2000 Server;
Windows 2000 Advanced Server;
Windows Millennium Edition.
NO version of ACD/Labs software v.4.5 or earlier is GUARANTEED TO RUN under Windows 2000. If you choose to install it on a Windows 2000 system, you do so at your own risk. Windows 2000 was not available at the time of development of release 4.5 (or earlier versions) and thus, the testing has not been extensive.
Known Installation Issues
These are provided for your information only, and should not be used as installation instructions.
- All ACD/Labs software requires the ability to write to the Windows directory. This directory is protected under Windows 2000 unless you have Administrator privileges. These privileges are therefore required for installation and operation of the software.
Configuration files for ACD/Labs software are written to the windows directory upon installation as well. The software will run with the default settings as installed; however any user preferences (such as default directories, new program locations, etc.) are written to these files. It is suggested that the Administrator grant Write and Modify privileges to users on the following files:
acdbasic.ini, acdexe.ini, acdilab.ini, acdisis.ini, acdsoft.ini.
- For all of the components to install correctly, you must use Add/Remove Programs under the Control Panel. Exit the startup screen that loads when the CD is first placed in the drive. Start Add/Remove Programs from the control panel. The setup.exe program is found in the x:\install directory (where x is the letter of your CD-ROM Drive).
- Dual Boot: ACD/Labs does not endorse such a configuration. If you absolutely need Windows 2000, there are dual-boot options available that will allow you to have two Windows 2000 and Windows 9x or NT (Linux or Win3.x for that matter) on the same computer. Please refer to your Windows 2000 documentation for more detail. In this configuration, only one OS will be registered to run the ACD/Labs software package.
- ACD/Labs Chemist's Version software release 4.0 (and earlier) does not install at all under Windows 2000. The Chemist's Version software includes:
ACD/Lite Companion v.3.5
CNMR Spectrum Generator v.4.5
HNMR Spectrum Generator v.4.5
IUPAC Name Generator v.4.5
BP and VP Calculator v.4.5
LogP Calculator v.4.5
Solubility Calculator v.4.5
pKa Calculator v.4.5.
- Aldrich NMR Library for ACD/Labs Standard and Pro, release 1.2 (and earlier) does not install under Windows 2000.
- Any ACD/Labs software that requires a HASP (dongle) to run WILL NOT run on Windows 2000.
