TORONTO, June 30, 2000 - ACD/Labs Welcomes New Physicochemical Science Product
Manager |
ACD/Labs is proud to welcome Dr. Robert S. DeWitte to its Toronto Office. Rob
will be joining us at the end of July 2000 and comes to ACD/Labs from Abbott
Laboratories where he has excelled both as a
scientist and as an information specialist. Rob's scientific background
began at McMaster University where he earned a B.Sc. (Chemistry and
Physics). At Harvard University, Robert focused his interests on
theoretical and computational approaches to the prediction of ligand-protein
binding which work led to the Ph.D. in Chemical Physics. At Abbott, Dr.
DeWitte worked closely with Dr. Yvonne Martin in several areas of prediction
including molecular properties, and is co-editor of an upcoming volume on
the Hydrophobic effect in Drug Discovery. At Abbott, Robert also became
active in emerging a direction for Discovery Informatics which led him to
take responsibility for a major initiative in Discovery information
management. Robert has taken on additional responsibility as Chair of the
Working group on Cheminformatics at the Object Management Group's task force
on LifeScience Research. Rob will be focussing his numerous skills on the
development of ACD/Labs' line of phys-chem products, and his experiences and
professional relationships in Pharmaceutical Discovery Research and
Scientific Information Management are welcome additions to our team.

WILMINGTON, NC, May, 2000 - ACD/Labs collaborates with Phosphorus Chemistry
expert
ACD/Labs consults the experts. Advanced Chemistry Development is presently
working with a number of experts in their individual fields in a consulting
capacity. In particular we are presently
in conversation with Dr Louis Quin, a renowned expert in Phosphorus
chemistry and Phosphorus NMR. As an author of seven texts and over 240
refereed journal articles regarding Phosphorus chemistry we chose to consult
with Dr Quin to ensure that our XNMR DB for P31 chemical shifts and
couplings is as up to date as possible. As a result of our collaborations
we will be expanding the database in the near future and expanding
capability based on our input. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration.

SAN FRANCISCO, ACS Meeting, 27th March 2000 - ACD/Labs Scholar of the Year Award
We are happy to announce the results of our first ACD/Labs Scholar of the Year Award. With the daunting task of wading through a large number of entries the judges were certainly challenged to come up with the winners. The work presented was of the highest scientific standard and we are happy to reproduce the award winners work at this website. The three winners, in order, were Györgyi Kovács, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Szeged, Hungary, Valentine P. Ananikov, ND Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, and Oleh Tanchak, the Department of Applied Chemical and Biological Sciences, Ryerson Polytechnic University. Honorable mention is also given to Jiansuo Wang, Institute of Physical Chemistry & College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University whose work we found extremely interesting. We thank everybody for their participation. You are all winners! ACD/Labs Scholar of the Year 2000 will be announced soon.
LAUSANNE, Switzerland, March 2000 - ACD/Labs wins award at LogP2000.
Every few years a group of scientists whose primary interests include an interest in the determination and calculation of the octanol-water partition coefficient, Log P, gather together to discuss the state of the art in this area of chemistry. As one of the software developers at the cutting edge of physicochemical prediction software including log P, pK a and log D it was only natural for us to participate and share our knowledge and understanding, and latest developments, with the experts in the field. We are therefore extremely proud to have had one of our three scientific poster presentation entitled " Correlation of Inhibition Constants for HIV-1 Protease and Viral Replication" voted as the best poster of the conference. Two other posters, entitled " Limitations of Fragmental Methods and ACD/LogP Training Feature" and " ACD/Labs Approaches for Phys-Chem Data Prediction" were also on
display. These posters allowed us to demonstrate our capabilities and
understanding in the field of Log P prediction and staying at the cutting
edge of software development in this area of science.
TORONTO, 8th March 2000 -
ACD/MS Manager offers Finnigan Xcalibur Support.
While the support of native file formats for spectrometers is a challenge,
we believe that this is the only appropriate route to providing integration
between our spectroscopy software modules and different vendor data systems.
We have continued to expand our format support for the impending 4.5 release. For ACD/MS Manager
we are happy to announce the support of the OCX control provided to us by
Finnigan to support their Xcalibur files. We have even established a
Finnigan Users Page for
aiding in the import of older formats.

ACD/I-Lab II Release
With a list of services including systematic naming generation, NMR and
physicochemical prediction, and online database searching by structure and
substructure, the Interactive Laboratory (I-Lab) has become renowned as the one-stop shopping mall for
prediction capability. The first release of I-Lab saw a Java-based site
offering a structure drawing applet and Molfile upload to initate
prediction and searches. In 1999 we released I-Lab support for ACD/ChemSketch,
our FREE PC-based structure drawing package. As a result we have
performed over 50,000 predictions and database searches in the last six
months. Now we are proud to announce the release of I-Lab II, the commercial
venture. With added capability in terms of both prediction technologies and
databases I-Lab II offers access to our industry standard tools via an
internet connection. It is possible to pay-per-prediction or subscribe to
one of more services for a defined period of time. There are already
academic schools taking advantage of annual site licences! I-Lab II will
surely be recognized again as the portal to one-stop shopping for
predictions and property database searches. Visit us now at
http://ilab.acdlabs.com and sign up for your FREE trial.
