COPENHAGEN,
DENMARK, July 2000 - ACD/Labs Supports the US Chemistry Olympiad Team

Recently the 32nd International Chemistry Olympiad challenge was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The four-member team representing the U.S. were (from left) David M. Kurtz, who just finished his junior year at Skyline High School, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Albert Wang, who just finished his junior year at Bellaire High School, Bellaire, Texas; Charles S. Duan, who just graduated from Beverly Hills High School, Beverly Hills, Calif.; and Luke C. McSpadden, who just graduated from Oklahoma School of Sciences & Math, Oklahoma City. The team competed against students from about 50 other countries. The team members were selected from among 20 contenders who attended a study camp hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The camp attendees were drawn from an initial pool of almost 10,000 high school students. The U.S. team received two gold medals and two bronze medals. Charles and David received the gold medals with David's medal being the top gold medal, the second year in a row that a U.S. team member has earned the top gold medal. Luke's bronze medal was the top bronze medal meaning that he was very close to earning a silver medal.
