Chemistry Database Management for Groups and Enterprises

ACD/ChemFolder is celebrated as a powerful tool for the creation and management of databases containing chemical structures and related information: text, images, or associated files. Despite the success of this desktop software product, which is used by many scientists around the world, there was still a desire for more. ACD/Labs had been challenged by users and their IT organizations to further enable their collaborative science by delivering ACD/ChemFolder on a non-proprietary SQL database, and we delivered. ACD/Labs is proud that ACD/ChemFolder Enterprise is already being used to meet organization-wide research challenges.

This product follows the industry standard three-tier architecture model, where data viewing client, logical process functions, and data storage are handled by independent modules, respectively. Currently, the popular Oracle and PostgreSQL database platforms are supported and have been tested.

The desktop graphical interface stays consistent with the celebrated ChemFolder interface and continues to offer the same functionalities, but is supplemented with new enterprise-level capabilities. Specifically, the use of a SQL database has enabled us to address issues of multiple users updating to a database simultaneously. We have also introduced finer degree of control for viewing and editing individual records, projects, or components of records. Files can be associated with individual records via a document check-in/checkout system, which allows direct connection of reports, data, and other relevant files. Further, links for viewing and reporting record values kept in a SpecManager data system can be easily established.
