Chemistry in Your Palm or Your Pocket

Vince Dillman, Tony Williams, Guy Desmarquets

Abstract

Chemistry software has finally become mobile with our new product, ACD/ChemPalm, which enables storing, browsing, and searching of sophisticated chemical databases containing structures and accompanying information on any standard Palm® OS-based PDA. Thousands of structures can be stored and searched on a typical 8 MB PDA for convenient access. Another new tool, ACD/ChemCoder, enables users to encode and retrieve chemical structures and associated data by scanning 2D barcodes. Large volumes of complex chemical data and inventory can be catalogued, differentiated, and controlled with more ease than ever before. ACD/ChemSketch will take a chemical structure and associated information to generate a 2D barcode. When the barcode is scanned, the encoded chemical structure can be displayed either on desktop software or a PDA application - ACD/ChemPalm.
